German Marco Rose has agreed to take over as Bournemouth manager on a three-year contract, replacing current manager Andoni Iraola at the end of the season.
Bournemouth announced last Tuesday that Iraola, 43, would not be signing a new contract with Vitality and would be looking for a new challenge, either within or outside the Premier League.
When Rose takes charge, Bournemouth will be preparing for their fifth consecutive season in the Premier League and may also be aiming for their first-ever European campaign. The team currently sits in eighth place after their recent win against Newcastle, level on points with sixth-placed Chelsea but behind on goal difference.
Bournemouth appoint Rose
Rose, 49, was one of three candidates considered by the Cherries, along with Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna and Rayo Vallecano manager Iñigo Pérez.
A Bournemouth statement read: “Everyone at Bournemouth is looking forward to welcoming Marco to the Vitality Stadium as he begins his duties as head coach this summer. The club’s immediate focus remains on finishing the current season as strongly as possible, with the players and staff continuing to show their full commitment to achieving positive results and building on the current 13-match unbeaten run.”
Rose’s Coaching Career
Rose has been without a club since being sacked by RB Leipzig in March 2015 and has never managed in England before.
He began his coaching career in 2012 with Lokomotive Leipzig and subsequently managed Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and RB Leipzig again.
He led Salzburg to two Austrian Bundesliga titles and an Austrian Cup, and won the German Cup and the German Super Cup with Leipzig. Rose was also a candidate for the Tottenham Hotspur job following the sacking of Thomas Frank last February.

Where will Iraola go next after leaving Bournemouth?
Thanks to his entertaining and successful style of play (considering Bournemouth’s resources), Iraola has attracted the attention of several major European clubs. His name was even linked to Real Madrid when Carlo Ancelotti left last year, before Florentino Pérez decided to pursue Xabi Alonso.
Iraola remains an option for Real Madrid as they search for a new manager to succeed Álvaro Arbeloa. With the Spaniard’s departure from Bournemouth, his chances of working at the Santiago Bernabéu increase, especially given his impressive previous experience in La Liga with Rayo Vallecano.
Iraola is also attracting significant interest in the Premier League. He is on the shortlist to succeed Michael Carrick as Manchester United manager next season, and his name has recently emerged as a potential replacement for Mikel Arteta should he be dismissed at the end of this season.
The Spaniard’s name has also been linked to coaching Crystal Palace, whose Austrian coach Oliver Glasner will leave, but it is unlikely that Iraola will agree to that move as he is looking for a new experience with a big club that competes for all titles.
