Real Madrid are preparing to take their first official step toward signing Rodri by submitting an opening bid worth between €50 million and €60 million to Manchester City, according to transfer specialist Nicolò Schira.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Los Blancos on personal terms for a contract running through the summer of 2030. Rodri has turned down Manchester City’s contract extension offer, driven by his desire to return to Spain and don the iconic white shirt.
However, the deal remains in its early stages. Real Madrid have yet to formally table the offer, and no agreement has been reached with Manchester City—who recently denied receiving any official contact or bids from the Spanish giants.
Real Madrid’s leverage lies in Rodri entering the final year of his current contract, which expires in June 2027. Still, their projected opening offer may fall short of City’s valuation, especially after the 30-year-old midfielder led Spain to the 2026 World Cup title and was crowned the Golden Ball winner as the tournament’s best player.
Adding another layer of intrigue, Paris Saint-Germain have entered the race by making preliminary inquiries regarding the conditions for Rodri’s departure, at the specific request of manager Luis Enrique.
Enrique views Rodri as a transformative addition who would bring elite control and authority alongside Vitinha, João Neves, and Fabián Ruiz. Crucially, the French side possesses the financial muscle to easily outbid Real Madrid’s opening proposal should they decide to escalate their interest into formal negotiations.
Despite PSG’s emergence, Real Madrid maintain the upper hand thanks to Rodri’s personal preference and the alleged agreement on personal terms. Manchester City’s response to Madrid’s imminent opening offer will now determine whether the deal moves toward a quick resolution or turns into an all-out bidding war between two European heavyweights.
