Real Madrid returned to winning ways at Spotify Camp Nou for the first time in over three and a half years, defeating Barcelona 2-1 thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappé in the tenth round of La Liga.
Los Blancos secured the victory through a late goal, handing José Mourinho’s side a win that revived fond memories on their rival’s home turf and halted Barcelona’s dominance in the last two El Clásico fixtures hosted at the venue.
Real Madrid’s previous victory at Camp Nou across all competitions dated back to April 5, 2023, when they thrashed Barcelona 4-0 in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals under Carlo Ancelotti, overturning a 1-0 first-leg deficit to advance to the final.
Karim Benzema starred on that historic night with a hat-trick, following Vinícius Júnior’s opening goal just before halftime—making the current victory Real Madrid’s first at the stadium since that iconic four-goal display.
In La Liga specifically, Real Madrid had been waiting since October 24, 2021, to reclaim victory at Camp Nou—a gap of five years and one day. On that occasion, Los Blancos also emerged 2-1 victors, courtesy of goals from David Alaba and Lucas Vázquez, against a late consolation strike from Sergio Agüero.
Although Real Madrid secured an away victory against Barcelona in October 2023 via a Jude Bellingham brace in a 2-1 win, that fixture was staged at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Montjuïc during Camp Nou’s renovation works, excluding it from the winning streak at Barça’s historic ground.
Following that victory, the Spanish giants suffered a 4-3 away defeat to Barcelona in May 2025 at Montjuïc, followed by a 2-0 loss at Camp Nou in May 2026, before Mbappé’s brace put an end to the wait and secured their first win on Catalan soil in nearly three years.
The comeback win arrived at a crucial juncture for Real Madrid, raising their tally to 24 points and narrowing the gap with leaders Barcelona to three points, while Mbappé continued his scintillating form at Camp Nou, elevating his personal tally at the stadium to five goals by adding his brace to the 2021 hat-trick scored in a Paris Saint-Germain shirt.
