Officially… Morocco is moving to include Brahim Diaz

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation sent a letter to Real Madrid requesting that Brahim Diaz join the Moroccan national team camp this March.

According to AS newspaper, Diaz received another official summons from the Spanish Football Federation in order to participate in the March camp as well.

Over the past year, Moroccan officials’ attempts to persuade Diaz did not stop, until the player obtained Moroccan citizenship in the past few days.

The decision is now in Diaz’s hands: either accept the Atlas Lions’ offer or go to the Spanish national team, but most likely the player has already chosen to represent Morocco.

The 24-year-old played one official match with the Spanish national team in 2021 and scored a goal during it, but FIFA rules allow him to change nationality if he wants unless he plays more than two matches.

Walid Regragui met Diaz more than once in the past weeks, and the player’s general feeling was that he would be the main and most important element in the Moroccan project, unlike Spain, which greatly motivated him to prefer his father’s country over his mother’s country.

It is noteworthy that Brahim Diaz is experiencing a very special situation with Real Madrid this season, after he played 31 matches in all tournaments, during which he succeeded in scoring 8 goals and assisting 4 others.
