Getafe President Ángel Torres confirmed that economic control procedures with La Liga have been resolved, leaving the final step dependent on Carvajal accepting the contract’s ultimate terms and minor contractual details prior to an official announcement.

The complication arose when the Spanish right-back agreed to accept a reduced salary to accommodate Getafe’s financial constraints. However, La Liga’s valuation committee rejected the proposed salary figure due to the significant discrepancy between the lowered wages and the market value of a player boasting a glittering trophy haul and individual accolades.

La Liga actively monitors deflated salary structures to prevent clubs from circumventing Financial Fair Play rules, assigning a higher theoretical cap hit for Carvajal at a moment when Getafe had already exceeded their squad cost limit.

Ángel Torres unlocked the impasse by providing a personal financial guarantee to increase the club’s registration capacity, stating: “I provided a personal guarantee, as I always do. Everything has been agreed upon and awaits Dani’s decision this week.”

The transfer saga experienced unpredictable twists after Torres initially announced the player had undergone medical tests, only to backpedal and label the claim a “joke” while declaring the deal dead. However, a personal intervention from manager José Bordalás—who phoned Carvajal directly to outline his tactical role—brought negotiations back on track.

Getafe presents an ideal destination for Carvajal, allowing him to remain in La Liga and stay based in the Spanish capital following the expiration of his Real Madrid contract on June 30. As a free agent, he remains eligible to be registered outside the standard transfer window.

Carvajal began his youth career at Real Madrid’s academy in 2002 before moving to Bayer Leverkusen for €5 million in 2012, with Los Blancos repurchasing him a season later for €6.5 million. He went on to make 450 official appearances and score 14 goals for the senior team, collecting 27 major trophies including six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns, alongside winning UEFA Euro 2024 and the 2023 UEFA Nations League with Spain.
