Bayern Munich have initiated a fresh move to secure Michael Olise’s future amid interest from European heavyweights, most notably Real Madrid, though impending contract renewal negotiations are colliding with a detail that could dictate the French winger’s future far more than the lucrative salary on offer.
German and Spanish reports have revealed that Olise is open to remaining in Munich, but he wants to retain a pathway that allows for a future departure, whereas Bayern’s management seeks to keep complete control over the player’s destiny.
The 24-year-old’s current contract runs until the summer of 2029 and does not contain a release clause, while Bayern are preparing to offer an extension until 2032 alongside increasing his annual salary from roughly 14 million euros to over 25 million euros, which could make him the club’s highest earner, surpassing Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala.
The true stumbling block, however, lies in Olise and his agent’s insistence on adding a release clause to the new deal. Bayern want to set it at 200 million euros, while the player is pushing for a significant reduction to prevent it from becoming a prohibitive, ceremonial clause.
Responding to links between the player and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer stated: “Bayern is not a club that is forced to sell its players; we make our decisions from a position of strength. Olise is tied down until 2029, and I hope we extend his contract.”
Hainer previously delivered an even sharper message to Florentino Pérez, declaring: “If he is thinking of making an offer, he’d better save himself the trouble.” Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also asserted that Bayern do not possess a price tag that could tempt them into parting ways with Olise.
The Bavarian giants signed the France international from Crystal Palace in 2024 for around 53 million euros after activating his release clause, before he developed into one of the team’s most vital stars—registering 53 goal contributions (goals and assists) across 52 matches last season, including 15 goals and 19 assists in the Bundesliga.
Olise has continued his strong start this season by netting 4 goals and providing 1 assist through his opening five Bundesliga appearances. Despite Real Madrid officially denying any direct or indirect contact with the player or his representatives, inserting a relatively low release clause into his new contract could grant Los Blancos the exact opening Bayern wish to avoid.
