Manchester City midfielder Rodri has turned down an offer from Paris Saint-Germain, confirming that he only wants to join Real Madrid should he depart the Premier League champions, according to Spanish journalist Sergio Valentín.
PSG’s move comes amid strong interest from manager Luis Enrique, who views his compatriot as the ideal addition to complete a midfield already boasting Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz, and João Neves.
However, Fabrizio Romano revealed that PSG’s sudden move for Rodri is closely tied to the French club’s frustration over Real Madrid firmly hijacking their pursuit of Yan Diomande.
PSG had been in talks for weeks to sign the RB Leipzig winger, having reached personal terms with the player without finalizing an agreement with the Bundesliga side.
Real Madrid capitalized on the delay by launching positive discussions with Diomande before submitting an initial bid of €90 million plus €10 million in add-ons. Leipzig rejected the offer, demanding well over €100 million to part ways with the player.
Following Madrid’s move, PSG contacted Manchester City to inquire about the conditions required to sign Rodri—a step characterized by Romano’s latest reports as a direct retaliation for Los Blancos’ interference in the Diomande deal.
Despite PSG’s entry, Rodri’s stance leaves Real Madrid with a distinct advantage. The 2026 World Cup champion has already rejected two renewal offers from Manchester City and remains resolute in his desire to play at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Preferring a return to his hometown in the Spanish capital, Sergio Valentín reports that Rodri has already reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with Florentino Pérez’s board, leaving only a club-to-club agreement between Real Madrid and Manchester City pending.
