Real Madrid has officially announced the identity of President Florentino Pérez’s highly anticipated marquee signing, a deal set to cost the Los Blancos’ treasury a staggering €150 million.
Ahead of the presidential elections, Pérez had promised to submit a €150 million bid on Tuesday to secure a superstar of the caliber of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaká. While names like Michael Olise, João Neves, Vitinha, and recently Enzo Fernández were heavily linked, the targeted superstar has finally been revealed as Julián Álvarez.
Atlético Madrid Rejects Real Madrid’s €150m Offer for Álvarez
According to Real Madrid’s official statement, Pérez’s administration sent a €150 million offer to Atlético Madrid today, which was promptly rejected.
The Colchoneros are holding out for the full value of Álvarez’s release clause, which stands at an astronomical €500 million, making the transfer virtually impossible at this stage.
El Derbi Madrileño Transfer Battle: Real Madrid vs. Barcelona
However, Spanish media outlets suggest this is far from over. Real Madrid is expected to intensify its efforts in the coming period to sign Julián Álvarez, attempting to find common ground with Atlético’s board.
It is worth noting that the Argentine forward was also Barcelona’s top transfer target. Atlético Madrid previously turned down a €100 million opening bid from the Catalan giants.
While reports initially indicated that Los Rojiblancos might consider selling the striker for €150 million, Real Madrid’s matching offer failed to convince Enrique Cerezo’s management. The historic and fierce rivalry between the two Madrid giants is believed to be a major factor behind the immediate rejection.
