Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has confirmed he will remain at the club until the end of his contract next season, contrary to recent reports in the English media.
United have signed Lisandro Martinez this summer and are negotiating with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt, which are clear indications that Maguire is out of manager Erik ten Hag’s plans.
But the England international responded in a press statement, saying “My contract is for another year with the option of an additional year.”
He added, “But if someone comes to me and says the club doesn’t want me, I will definitely look at other options.”
He concluded, “But nobody has told me that at all, so I’m staying with United and focusing all my energy on winning trophies here.”
It is worth noting that Maguire is the most expensive defender transfer in football history, with United paying over €80 million to sign him from Leicester City in 2019.
