Lille Part Ways with Génésio Despite Champions League Qualification

The announcement comes after Lille decided to part ways with head coach Bruno Génésio at the end of the season, despite the Frenchman successfully guiding the club to UEFA Champions League qualification. The club subsequently launched a search for a new manager before settling on Davide Ancelotti as their top target.

Davide Ancelotti’s Coaching Background and Career Path

Davide is currently serving as assistant coach to his father, Carlo Ancelotti, with the Brazilian national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Prior to that, the younger Ancelotti gained extensive experience as his father’s assistant at some of the biggest clubs in world football, including Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Napoli, and Everton — a journey that began back in 2012.

His only experience as a head coach came at Brazilian giants Botafogo, where he took charge of 33 matches, winning 15, drawing 10, and losing 8, before stepping down to join his father’s World Cup setup.

Davide is widely regarded as one of the most promising young coaches in the world. His name has been linked with several top European clubs in recent years, with many insiders crediting him for playing a decisive behind-the-scenes role in the remarkable success Carlo Ancelotti has enjoyed throughout the last decade.
