Bayern Munich have revealed details regarding the injuries sustained by Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry, confirming the loss of two key attacking figures as the Bavarian club’s selection crisis deepens.
Both players suffered injuries during Saturday evening’s 2-2 Bundesliga draw against Borussia Dortmund and were forced off early, before the team also lost Michael Olise in the second half.
In an official statement, Bayern explained that Saibari suffered a torn syndesmosis ligament in his right ankle joint and has already undergone successful surgery, while Gnabry is suffering from a muscle injury in his left hamstring.
According to German newspaper Bild, the Moroccan international will be sidelined for at least three months, meaning he will not play again in 2026, while Gnabry is expected to be out for four to six weeks. The club did not specify an official timeline for either player’s return in its statement.
Saibari’s injury occurred following a collision with Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel during an attacking attempt, forcing him off in the 29th minute supported by medical staff before leaving the stadium on crutches. Just two minutes later, Gnabry was forced off after going down on the turf without any opponent contact.
Concerns further mounted when Olise was substituted in the 84th minute while clutching his right knee. Although the official statement did not include a diagnosis for his injury, Bild reported that Bayern hope to have him ready to face Atlético Madrid, though his participation remains uncertain.
These new setbacks add to the existing absences of Luis Díaz and Jamal Musiala, as well as a foot issue that kept Manuel Neuer out of Der Klassiker, all while head coach Vincent Kompany continues to recover from illness, leaving assistant manager Aaron Danks in temporary charge.
Bayern travel to face Atlético Madrid on Tuesday, November 3, in the UEFA Champions League with severely depleted attacking options, having emerged from Der Klassiker with two points dropped and three new injury concerns.
