Ajax are on the verge of signing Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos during the current summer transfer window, with an agreement on the transfer fee and timeline looming on the horizon between both clubs.
The Spanish international suffered from a complete lack of game time under manager Alvaro Arbeloa during the final three months of last season. Following internal disputes, Ceballos failed to register a single minute of football since March.
With his contract running until the summer of 2027 and neither side showing any intention to renew, Ceballos’s exit from the Santiago Bernabeu has become inevitable.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ajax will submit an official €6 million bid to sign the 27-year-old, who is highly enthusiastic about moving to the Dutch giants. Barring any late surprises, the deal is expected to be finalized within the coming hours, especially since Jose Mourinho has given the green light to the Real Madrid board to proceed with the sale.
Ajax have recently appointed Spanish manager Míchel, sparking a massive revolution at the Johan Cruyff Arena aimed at upgrading the midfield’s quality. The Dutch club views Ceballos as the ideal profile to spearhead this new tactical era.
The former Real Betis star was close to joining Marseille last winter, but negotiations collapsed at the final hurdle. Consequently, his lack of minutes during the second half of the season cost him a place in Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Over his seven seasons with Real Madrid, Ceballos made 215 appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 16 assists. However, he featured for just 826 minutes across 23 matches last season.
