Following his departure from Manchester City, Bernardo was heavily linked with Barcelona. However, Barça’s lack of urgency—fueled by Hansi Flick’s hesitation to greenlight the move—distanced the Portuguese playmaker from the Camp Nou.

Although he also received an offer from Atlético Madrid, Bernardo recently announced he would delay his final decision until after his campaign with Portugal in the 2026 World Cup.

Díaz reports that Real Madrid’s new manager, José Mourinho, is determined to sign Bernardo and has personally contacted him to explain why a move to Los Blancos is the best step for his career.

With personal terms not expected to be an issue, Mourinho’s direct intervention has reportedly convinced Silva that he will play a pivotal role in Madrid’s midfield next season. Furthermore, Bernardo’s agent, Jorge Mendes—who also represents Mourinho—maintains an excellent relationship with Florentino Pérez, heavily tilting the scale toward the Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid have already secured two summer signings: Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries. Mourinho is reportedly eyeing one more midfielder and a versatile center-back who can double as a left-back.
