Renowned journalist Felix Diaz has confirmed that Jose Mourinho requested the Real Madrid management to sign Bernardo Silva, shortly after President Florentino Perez had initially rejected the idea.
Perez Changes Stance After Direct Request from Mourinho
Following the end of Silva’s contract with Manchester City, his agent, Jorge Mendes, offered him to Real Madrid. However, Perez was not convinced by the deal, preferring instead to sign a young player to bolster the midfield.
According to Diaz, Perez no longer objects to the idea of signing Bernardo after Mourinho made a direct request to him to achieve this. The “Special One” deeply believes in the sheer quality the 32-year-old can bring to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bernardo Silva Awaits Real Madrid Move Until After World Cup 2026
Mourinho’s interest in signing him has already reached Bernardo, who has therefore decided to wait and temporarily hold off on choosing his next destination until Real Madrid’s move towards him is confirmed.
Bernardo announced in a press interview last Saturday that he will not declare his new club until he finishes his participation with Portugal in the 2026 World Cup.
The Portuguese star already enjoys significant interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid; however, the former is still unable to finance the deal, while the player himself does not prefer the option of moving to the Rojiblancos.
It is worth noting that Bernardo is not the only player requested by Mourinho to strengthen the midfield, as the manager hopes to sign him along with another Portuguese player, Mateus Fernandes, the West Ham star.
