Zamalek secured a thrilling 1-0 victory over their guests, Pyramids, at Cairo International Stadium, in the third round of the second leg of the 2026 Egyptian League.
This is the White Knights’ second win against Pyramids this season, following their 1-0 victory over the African champions in the first leg at the Air Defense Stadium, courtesy of a penalty kick by Hossam Abdel-Maguid.

Goals from the Zamalek vs. Pyramids match in the 2026 Egyptian League
Zamalek clearly dominated the first half, with Moataz Gamal’s men squandering several opportunities, before Pyramids took control.
In the second half, the match remained a back-and-forth affair, with Zamalek launching attacks and Pyramids pressing forward near El-Mahdi Soliman’s penalty area.
The turning point of the match came when Moataz Gamal decided to bring on Chico Banza in place of Oday Dabbagh, after the Angolan had initially missed a clear scoring opportunity.
In the 84th minute, Banza worked his magic, dribbling past Mahmoud Marei and approaching the goal before sending in a cross towards Juan Bezerra. With a single touch, the Brazilian slotted the ball past goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy, giving Zamalek the lead.

Banza then scored a second goal in the 91st minute, but it was disallowed after a VAR review showed the 26-year-old was offside.
Egyptian Premier League standings after Zamalek’s victory over Pyramids
This victory gives Zamalek a significant advantage with only four rounds remaining in the 2026 Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek reached 49 points, a full five points ahead of their closest rivals, Al Ahly and Pyramids.
This difference is of great importance, especially for Zamalek, beyond their primary title challenge. At the very least, the White Knights are on the verge of returning to the CAF Champions League after a three-year absence.

Zamalek’s remaining matches in the 2026 Egyptian Premier League
After their victory over Pyramids FC, Zamalek will host ENPPI at Cairo International Stadium next Monday, April 27th, in a revenge match for Moataz Gamal’s men after their 1-0 defeat in the first leg at the Arab Contractors Stadium.
Following that will be the highly anticipated Cairo Derby, where Zamalek will face Al Ahly on Friday, May 1st. They will then play Smouha and Ceramica Cleopatra, with the dates for the latter two matches still uncertain, depending on the CAF Confederation Cup final.
It’s worth noting that Zamalek will face USM Alger in the first leg at the Stade du 5 Juillet, then host them in the second leg at Cairo International Stadium, as the White Knights strive for a historic double.
