Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni has emerged as a strong contender on Manchester United’s shortlist of candidates to replace Casemiro.
Casemiro announced that, by mutual agreement with Manchester United, he would not be renewing his contract with the Red Devils, leaving after five years at Old Trafford. This has prompted the club’s search for a world-class midfielder.
Manchester United Targets Midfield Restructuring
United are keen to sign at least two midfielders this summer, and with Champions League qualification, the available options may be greater than usual.
The midfield reinforcement may not be limited to two players; a third could be added if Manuel Ugarte leaves. The Uruguayan midfielder has struggled since his £50.5 million move from Paris Saint-Germain in 2014 and is known for his desire for regular playing time.
Tchouaméni has become a prime target for Manchester United after proving his quality in Real Madrid’s midfield. His attributes are not unlike those of Casemiro, and he is one of the few midfielders worthy of a significant investment and a bet for the future.

Real Madrid not opposed to Tchouaméni’s departure
Any move to sign Tchouaméni – who is under contract until 2028 – may hinge on Real Madrid signing a new midfielder this summer and their need to sell players to finance that deal.
It is well known that Florentino Pérez, the club’s president, admires Rodri, the Madrid-born Manchester City player and 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.
Rodri’s contract expires at the end of next season, and City have offered him a new deal. However, if Real Madrid decide to turn their interest in the 29-year-old into a formal offer, it could open the door for United to make a move for Tchouaméni.
Spanish media have also indicated that Eduardo Camavinga is up for sale, and the current intention within Pérez’s administration is to carry out a complete overhaul of the midfield to resolve the crisis that has persisted since the departure of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
Tchouaméni is Manchester United’s ideal option
The Telegraph Sport revealed in February that Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali was heavily on their shortlist, but his chances of joining are believed to be diminishing as the club evaluates other options.
Manchester City are considered the frontrunners to sign another United midfield target, Elliott Anderson. Nottingham Forest are believed to be demanding at least £100 million for the English midfielder.
Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is another name that has been heavily monitored, but he is thought to be very similar to Kobe Maino as a natural partner in deeper midfield positions. Maino is expected to sign a new contract with United.
