Porto’s Samu Omorodion is believed to have suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during Monday’s Clásico against Sporting Lisbon, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
According to Record, the Spanish international sustained the injury to his right knee during the match. After experiencing pain twice in the first half, he was substituted at halftime, replaced by Denis Jull.
Although Porto’s players were given Tuesday off, the club’s medical staff used the day to reassess the team’s injury situation. According to the same source, the player’s recovery period has not yet been determined, as it will depend on the precise assessment of the injury’s severity.
However, there remains a real possibility that Samu’s season with Porto is over, and surgery is still a strong possibility.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation has already been informed of the situation, meaning Samu’s dream of playing in the 2026 World Cup is now in serious jeopardy.
The 21-year-old Samu won an Olympic medal with Spain at the Paris 2024 Games and has made four international appearances for the senior national team, most recently against Turkey in the November international break.
