Eta had been appointed on an interim basis until the end of the season following the dismissal of Stephan Baumgart, with the hope of saving the team from relegation to the second division.

In her historic debut as the first woman to manage a club in Europe’s top five leagues, her team suffered a defeat against Wolfsburg, who had not won a match since January.

Wolfsburg took the lead through Patrick Wimmer in the 11th minute, and Janjan Pejčinović added a second in the 46th minute. Oliver Bürki pulled one back for the Försterei side in the 86th minute.

This victory revived Wolfsburg’s hopes of staying in the Bundesliga, bringing them to 25 points and putting them just two points behind 16th-placed St. Pauli, who currently occupy the relegation playoff spot against the third-placed team in the second division.

Meanwhile, Union Berlin dropped to 11th place with 32 points. While their chances of remaining in the Bundesliga are still good, another run of defeats could put them back in serious doubt.

Union Berlin will travel to face fourth-placed RB Leipzig next week, followed by matches against Cologne and Mainz, before concluding their campaign against Augsburg on May 16th.
