Ten Hag’s Bundesliga debut against Leverkusen is disastrous

Bayer Leverkusen coach Erik ten Hag has had the worst possible start to his Bundesliga career at the BayArena.

Ten Hag took over from Xabi Alonso, who left for Real Madrid in early May after two successful years with the pharmaceutical company.

In Ten Hag’s first competitive Bundesliga match, Leverkusen suffered a bitter defeat to Hoffenheim, 2-1, at the BayArena.

Although Leverkusen took the lead through center back Quansah, the home side were unable to hold on, and Hoffenheim were able to take the three points back to Baden.

Leverkusen is the second-biggest German club to spend this summer, having spent €140 million on 11 players.

Ten Hag is now enjoying a miserable start to his career, which has heightened doubts about his ability as a coach, especially given his poor performances with Manchester United over the past two years.

Ten Hag’s second match with Leverkusen will be against Werder Bremen next week at the Weserstadion.
