Osasuna winger Victor Muñoz faces a major setback with the possibility of missing the 2026 World Cup with the Spanish national team due to injury.
Muñoz, who is of Catalan descent, is one of the newest players in coach Luis de la Fuente’s squad in recent months after his impressive performances with Osasuna in La Liga this season.
The newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that Muñoz suffered a calf injury that will keep him out of action until the end of the season, with doubts surrounding his recovery timely return to the Spanish squad for the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The former Real Madrid winger joined the Spanish national team during the last international break and played in the matches against Serbia and Egypt. He was expected to secure his place in de la Fuente’s World Cup squad, but the injury now threatens that.
The 21-year-old has high hopes of making it to the World Cup squad, and it is initially assumed he will need a month to recover. Hopefully, this will be enough to convince De la Fuente to include him in the squad and gradually prepare him for La Roja’s participation in the tournament.
Muñoz has made 35 appearances in all competitions this season for Osasuna, scoring six goals and providing five assists. He also scored his first goal for his country in a friendly against Serbia last March.
In recent weeks, Real Madrid have reportedly expressed interest in re-signing their former player, and he has also emerged as a target for Barcelona this summer.
