Bayern Munich’s friendly victory over RB Leipzig turned into moments of terror after Jamal Musiala suddenly collapsed on the pitch at the Allianz Arena, without any contact with opposing players.
According to the German newspaper Bild, Musiala lost consciousness for a few seconds due to the high temperature before the medical staff quickly intervened and provided the necessary first aid. The player then got up and left the pitch on his own feet.
The report confirmed that the incident was not related to a muscle injury or a setback in Musiala’s ankle, but was rather a result of his circulation being affected by the hot weather. Reassurance came quickly after a scene that brought back memories of his terrifying injury for Bayern fans.
The German star had come on as a substitute and managed to find the back of the net during Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Leipzig in the friendly match held as part of the Telekom Cup. The Bavarian team’s other two goals were scored by Luis Diaz and Nathaniel Brown.
The fans’ sensitivity towards any fall involving Musiala is understandable, given his concerning track record recently. In July 2025, he suffered a fractured fibula accompanied by a dislocated and fractured ankle during the match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup. He underwent surgery that sidelined him for 32 matches across various competitions.
Musiala returned to the pitch after an absence of nearly six months, but he felt pain in the same ankle following the match against Atalanta last March. He was forced to be sidelined again for several weeks before undergoing a minor, pre-planned procedure after the 2026 World Cup as a follow-up to the old injury.
Despite Musiala being safe, the match did not pass without potential casualties for Bayern. Konrad Laimer was forced to leave the pitch after a heavy blow and a complaint in his left thigh area, requiring assistance from the medical staff as he exited before applying an ice pack to the painful spot.
Additionally, South Korean Kim Min-jae pulled up during the second half due to discomfort near his knee and left the game. Meanwhile, Sacha Boey suffered from muscle cramps, and Alphonso Davies took a knock in the final minutes. Bayern has not yet released an official diagnosis confirming any serious injuries for any of these players.
