Modrić Makes Serie A History

Luka Modrić led his team, Milan, to a 1-0 victory over Bologna in the Italian League.

Modrić joined the Rossoneri last summer on a free transfer after his contract with Real Madrid expired, and it didn’t take long to make history with the Italian giants.

Modrić’s goal against Bologna made him the oldest midfielder to score in Serie A history, at the age of 40 years and 5 days.

The Croatian also broke Nils Liedholm’s record with Milan, when he scored at the age of 38 years and 169 days on March 26, 1961, during a derby match against Inter.

Overall, Modrić became the sixth player to score at the age of 40 in Serie A history, following five previous stars, including Milan legends; Italians Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Costacurta, Swedish Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gianluca Vialli, and Francesco Totti.

Modric received much praise after the match, most notably from his coach, Massimiliano Allegri, who simply said that the Real Madrid legend was an “exceptional player” who would never be repeated.
