Bayern Munich’s management has imposed a complete ban on discussing football matters with head coach Vincent Kompany, aiming to shield him from work-related stress while he recovers from a recent health crisis that forced him away from the team.
Assistant manager Aaron Danks revealed direct instructions from board members Max Eberl and Christoph Freund to allow the Belgian coach time to rest and spend time with his family, while the assistant staff assumes full responsibility for training sessions and match duties.
Danks stated: “I have strict instructions from Max and Christoph not to engage in those conversations,” clarifying that the board is treating his recovery period with utmost seriousness and refuses to burden Kompany with tactical details or match preparations.
The medical emergency unfolded when the 40-year-old manager collapsed while observing a reserve team training session on October 23. He was immediately rushed to the hospital for comprehensive testing, having suffered from underlying health discomfort in the preceding days.
Eberl subsequently disclosed that examinations revealed Kompany had suffered from meningeal irritation—an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord—before being cleared to leave the hospital on October 28 to continue his recovery at home with rest and medication.
The consequences of the incident extended beyond the illness itself; German newspaper Zeit reported that Kompany also sustained a dislocated shoulder as a result of his fall onto the pitch, receiving necessary treatment for the injury following his admission to the hospital.
According to Bild, Kompany will not return to the touchline prior to the conclusion of the November international break. The fixture against 1. FC Köln on November 20 has been identified as a potential target date for his return, subject to his recovery progress and clearance from medical professionals.
In his absence, Danks continues to lead the team, having already overseen a 3-1 victory against Freiburg followed by a 6-1 DFB-Pokal win over Magdeburg. He will maintain charge for the upcoming fixtures against Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid, and Mainz prior to the international break.
