Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala underwent comprehensive medical tests in the past few hours to determine the nature of his injury and the length of his absence.
The German international sustained a serious injury during the match against Paris Saint-Germain, following a violent tackle by Gianluigi Donnarumma, which sparked widespread criticism of the Italian goalkeeper.
According to Kicker, Musiala suffered a fractured fibula in his left foot and damaged several ligaments, and will require surgery.
Bayern Munich decided not to have Musiala undergo surgery in the United States, but rather to enter the operating room as soon as the Bavarians arrive in Munich in the next few hours. This will allow him to be fully supervised by the club’s doctors to prevent any conflict that could exacerbate the injury.
At the same time, the 23-year-old will need at least four months to recover and return to action.
Musiala’s absence could extend to five or six months, and his return date depends on the speed of his wound healing and his response to treatment.
Musiala’s injury represents a major blow to Bayern Munich, which may force them to invest more heavily in the summer transfer window to sign a replacement, especially given the club’s failure to sign a left winger to bolster the attack so far.
It’s worth noting that Bayern Munich is currently trying to secure a deal for Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, but the southern club is insisting on receiving more than €60 million to part with one of Europe’s most promising young players.
