Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed his optimism about the Catalan club’s ability to overturn the deficit against Atlético Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.
Barça lost the first leg 4-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid and now need a miraculous four-goal victory at the Camp Nou to force extra time.
In the pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s game, Flick said, “Everyone knows what awaits us tomorrow. We are four goals down, and we have to make the impossible possible. That’s our objective.”
He added, “We know it won’t be easy, but we won’t give up. It’s important to keep a clean sheet, and we have to believe we can do it.”
He continued, “We can score two goals in each half. We know it will be difficult because they are a great team and they caused us a lot of problems in the last match, but I think we can do it.”
“You always have to believe, of course,” he continued. “All the fans in the stadium will be behind us. We have a good example, what happened against Dortmund (the Champions League match against Atalanta).”
When asked if Barcelona might draw inspiration from their historic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, he replied, “I don’t think about the past or the future. The most important thing is tomorrow.”
He concluded, “Yes, we know the history, but our job is to put on a good performance tomorrow. We didn’t look good in the last match, and we want to see our best version of ourselves and we want to see everyone’s support.”
