Bayern Munich has rewarded its star player Jamal Musiala with a message stating that he represents the present and future of the Bavarian club.
Musiala renewed his contract with Bayern Munich a few months ago, making him one of the highest-paid players in southern Germany. This stems from the club’s belief that the 22-year-old is the most important German talent currently on the books.
According to an official announcement from the club, Bayern Munich’s management has decided to award Musiala the number 10 shirt starting next season, in recognition of his efforts and his status as the team’s current standout star, alongside Harry Kane.
The number 10 shirt was previously held by another star, Leroy Sané, for the past five years, before the player decided not to renew his contract with Bayern Munich and move to Galatasaray during the current summer transfer window.
Immediately after the deal was completed, Bayern informed Musiala that he would wear the number 10 shirt, retiring the number 42 shirt he had worn since his promotion to the first team three years ago.
The number 10 is considered a number reserved for Bayern Munich legends, having previously been worn by stars such as Uli Hoeness, Lothar Matthaus, Roy Makaay, Arjen Robben, and others.
This move is similar to one made by Barcelona in recent days, when they decided that Lamine Yamal would wear the number 10 shirt starting next season following the departure of Ansu Fati, given that the 17-year-old is currently the Catalan club’s most important star.
