Kylian Mbappé sparked the race for the 2025 European Golden Shoe award with his goal for Real Madrid against Sevilla in the 37th round of the Spanish League.
The Golden Shoe award is given to the player who scores the most goals in European leagues, with goals converted into points based on the strength of the league and other factors.
With Mbappé’s goal, he has now scored 29 goals in La Liga this season with Real Madrid, bringing his tally to 58 points and putting him on the cusp of the top spot.
However, Sporting Lisbon striker Victor Gjokers remains at the top of the standings with 58.5 points, having scored 38 goals in the Portuguese league this season.
Mohamed Salah’s chances of winning the Golden Shoe remain, as he has 56 points after scoring 28 goals in the English Premier League with Liverpool.
For Gjokers, the season in the Portuguese league is over, while Salah and Mbappé have their chances.
Salah will play two matches with Liverpool in the Premier League, the first against Brighton and the second against Crystal Palace. Mbappé has one more match remaining against Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu in La Liga.
