Al-Nassr have officially completed the signing of Australian manager Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach, succeeding former manager Jorge Jesus.
The Portuguese tactician guided Al-Nassr to the Saudi Pro League title before deciding to depart Al-Awwal Park. He now appears to be the frontrunner to manage the Portugal national team following the 2026 World Cup.
Several high-profile names were previously linked with the vacant managerial seat at Al-Nassr, most notably Portugal’s current Spanish head coach, Roberto Martinez. However, in a surprise move, Al-Nassr confirmed the selection of Postecoglou, who is renowned for his entertaining, attacking brand of football and his notable stint in the English Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.
The 60-year-old manager has signed a two-year contract with Al-Nassr and will lead Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates starting from the new season.
Postecoglou boasts extensive experience in Asian football. In addition to managing the Australia national team between 2013 and 2017, he coached Japan’s Yokohama F. Marinos from 2018 to 2021, winning several titles before launching his European career with Scotland’s Celtic.
Throughout his managerial career, Ange has won the J1 League once, the A-League four times, and the 2015 AFC Asian Cup with Australia. He also secured two Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic, though his crowning achievement remains winning the UEFA Europa League with Tottenham during the 2024-25 season.
Notably, Postecoglou’s most recent managerial spell was with Nottingham Forest, which lasted just over a month before he was dismissed last October.
