Zamalek SC have firmly denied reports claiming they reached an agreement with UAE side Shabab Al Ahli to sell Brazilian winger Juan Bezerra during the current summer transfer window.
Reports previously suggested that the Cairo giants had agreed to sell the 2025–2026 Egyptian Premier League champion for a $4 million flat fee.
However, club officials addressed Egyptian media to completely refute the claims, reaffirming that Bezerra will remain with the squad for the upcoming season and that all exit talks are officially closed.
Transfer Negotiation Details & Financial Demands
The saga escalated following Shabab Al Ahli’s initial $4 million proposal plus add-ons. Zamalek countered with heavy demands, requesting:
-
A upfront transfer fee of $6 million cash
-
$1 million in performance-based add-ons
-
A 20% sell-on clause for future transfers
-
Additional bonuses tied to individual performance metrics
Talks collapsed when neither side compromised on the valuation. The situation gained further traction following the leak of an official letter sent by Zamalek to Shabab Al Ahli, outlining conditions for a potential transfer while clarifying that any agreement remained non-binding until a formal three-party contract was finalized.
Player Statement & Zamalek’s Official Response
The breakdown led to a public dispute when Juan Bezerra issued a personal statement to Zamalek supporters. The Brazilian forward claimed management broke a verbal promise allowing him to leave if a suitable offer arrived. Bezerra noted he had rejected multiple exit routes in late 2025 to stay and help win the league title, calling Shabab Al Ahli’s proposal the largest potential transfer fee in the club’s history.
Zamalek issued a formal response denying any verbal promises were made by the club president or board members. Emphasizing that the player remains under contract for three more seasons, the club condemned Bezerra’s absence from recent training sessions, demanding his immediate return to Cairo while reserving all legal rights.
Since joining the White Knights, Juan Bezerra has made 44 appearances across all competitions, recording 8 goals and 12 assists while playing a vital role in Zamalek’s recent league title triumph.
