Moine Chaabani Set to Coach Tunisia After Failed Hervé Renard Negotiations

Tunisia endured its worst-ever World Cup campaign in history, starting with a crushing 5-1 defeat against Sweden. This heavy loss led to the dismissal of coach Sabri Lamouchi just six months after his appointment, with Renard stepping in on an interim basis for the subsequent matches against Japan and the Netherlands.

However, the Carthage Eagles suffered defeats in both games. It became increasingly evident that Renard was dissatisfied with the inner workings of the Tunisian federation, ultimately causing the contract talks to collapse entirely.

According to Tunisian media reports, Moine Chaabani, the current manager of Moroccan club RS Berkane, has emerged as the frontrunner to succeed Renard on a two-year contract.

Chaabani possesses extensive experience in Tunisian football, having previously managed Esperance de Tunis and guided them to back-to-back CAF Champions League titles. He has also enjoyed recent success in Morocco, winning the league title and the CAF Confederation Cup with RS Berkane.

Reports indicate that former Tunisian international Anis Boujelbene will serve as Chaabani’s assistant coach. This development comes just days after Boujelbene declined an offer to head the scouting committee at Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
