Barcelona have reopened communication channels with Marcus Rashford’s representatives, initiating fresh talks to explore bringing the English forward back to the Camp Nou after previously shelving the deal.
Rashford made 49 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions during the 2025–2026 season, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists to become a pivotal element in Hansi Flick’s tactical setup.
Despite his strong performances, Barcelona initially opted against triggering the €30 million permanent buy-option due to financial fair play restrictions. The move led many to believe Rashford’s chapter in Catalonia had ended, particularly following the marquee signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
However, recent reports indicate that the departures of both Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres—combined with the club’s failure to secure a recognized central striker so far—have forced Barcelona to revisit Rashford. Hansi Flick remains eager to bolster his attacking depth alongside new arrivals Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.
Manchester United initially held out for a permanent sale around £40 million to generate funds and reduce their wage bill. However, Old Trafford officials are gradually softening their stance on another loan deal if a outright sale fails to materialize, provided it includes an obligation to buy in the summer of 2027.
For his part, Rashford has expressed a clear desire to remain with Barcelona, having settled into the city and thoroughly enjoyed playing under Flick—giving the Catalan giants a significant leverage advantage in ongoing discussions.
In the meantime, Rashford has returned to pre-season training with Manchester United. Red Devils manager Michael Carrick is prepared to give the forward a second chance, granting United strategic flexibility and removing immediate pressure to rush a sale without favorable terms.
