The bond between Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez remains unbreakable, stretching from their golden days at Barcelona to their current partnership at Inter Miami. Recently, the Uruguayan striker revealed the ongoing text messages between the two football icons following Messi’s historic performances with Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.
Messi turned heads globally after scoring a staggering five goals in his first two matches—netting a hat-trick against Algeria followed by a brace against Austria. With these goals, “La Pulga” became the all-time top scorer in World Cup history with 18 goals, shattering the long-standing record held by Germany’s Miroslav Klose.
Speaking to the media about Messi’s legendary run, Suarez joked about their private conversations:
“I write to him after the matches and jokingly swear at him, saying, ‘That’s enough!’ because there are simply no words or congratulations left to do him justice.”
Suarez added, “It’s unbelievable. First and foremost, as a football fan, you just have to applaud him. He surprises you in every single game.”
“I am so happy to see him happy and witnessing how much he is enjoying this World Cup,” Suarez concluded.
While Messi shines on the global stage, Suarez had hoped to come out of international retirement to represent Uruguay in the 2026 World Cup. However, manager Marcelo Bielsa decided against calling him up, choosing instead to trust the same squad that successfully secured qualification through the qualifiers.
