Real Madrid confirmed in an official statement that Kylian Mbappé has suffered a muscle injury and will be sidelined for an unspecified period.
The French star left the recent match against Real Betis on Friday after what the club later revealed was a “muscle tear in his left leg.”
According to Marca, Mbappé will definitely miss the match against Espanyol scheduled for next Sunday at the RCDE Stadium.
Mbappé will do everything he can to return early and be available for the match against Barcelona at Camp Nou, scheduled for May 10.
Despite this, some Spanish media outlets suggest that Mbappé doesn’t intend to take any risks and may not play in any of Real Madrid’s remaining matches this season to ensure he is fully fit for the 2026 World Cup with France.
After the two matches against Catalonia, Real Madrid will host Real Oviedo at the Bernabéu, then face Sevilla in Andalusia, and conclude the season in the Spanish capital against Athletic Bilbao.
Mbappé has participated in 41 matches across all competitions this season and remains the top scorer in Álvaro Arbeloa’s squad, having scored 41 goals and provided 6 assists.
