The Argentine international is going through a difficult period with the Blues after being suspended by the club following comments in which he hinted that he would be very happy to move to Real Madrid.

Enzo Fernandez’s crisis with Chelsea

Fernandez told a network after Chelsea’s elimination from the Champions League last month that he didn’t know whether he would stay at Stamford Bridge next season.

In the same interview, Fernandez said that there were “no talks” with Real Madrid, adding that he was currently focused on Chelsea, but would “see what happens after the World Cup.”

The Argentine international further fueled speculation about his move to Los Blancos when he said that he wanted to live in the Spanish capital, Madrid, because it reminded him of Buenos Aires.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior said that Fernandez had “crossed the line” and subsequently suspended him for two matches. His agent responded with a scathing attack on the English club, its management, and their handling of the player.

Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea

According to the popular Spanish program, the way Chelsea officials dealt with Enzo after his comments greatly angered him, making him even more determined to leave after initially being open to renewing his contract with the London club.

The 27-year-old reportedly wants to submit a formal transfer request to Chelsea’s management within the next two months to allow him to leave the English club next summer.

The Argentine player’s agent had indicated that he would meet with Chelsea officials after the 2026 World Cup to discuss a contract extension, hinting that his client would leave Stamford Bridge if these negotiations were unsuccessful, which seems likely given recent events.

This move will be the first step in the pressure he and his agent will exert on Chelsea. The ultimate goal is for the American management to lose patience and agree to sell him, whether to Real Madrid or any other club.

The financial aspect is the biggest obstacle to Enzo’s transfer to Real Madrid

Despite the current complex situation, Chelsea does not intend to lose money on the 2022 World Cup winner. After acquiring him from Benfica for approximately €140 million, they will not allow him to leave for less, regardless of the circumstances.

According to the latest report, Chelsea will demand at least €150 million for Enzo, especially since he is one of the most prominent midfielders in the world, and there is virtually no other player of his current quality in the Premier League or the other top five European leagues.

Real Madrid does not seem keen on taking such a step. The Spanish club prefers to make much less expensive signings, and financing such a sum would initially require selling several key players.

It’s already being said that Real Madrid plans to offload Camavinga next summer, but to sign a central defender to partner Enzo and make other reinforcements, they will need to sell at least one or two players to raise the necessary funds.

One of Real Madrid’s plans is to pressure Chelsea using a tactic they’ve employed in the transfer market. While the player refuses to stay and might even rebel, the Spanish giants will submit their decisive financial offer in the final week of the transfer window, potentially driving down the asking price significantly.

This scenario is similar to what happened with Alexander Isak and Newcastle, even though Liverpool ultimately secured the deal for €150 million, making it the most expensive transfer in Premier League history.
