Chelsea’s Champions League campaign ended in shock fashion as Paris Saint-Germain secured a resounding 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, knocking the Blues out of the competition with an 8-2 aggregate score in the round of 16.
Mamadou Sarr, making his Champions League debut, made a costly error after just six minutes, failing to control a long ball forward, allowing Khvica Kvaratskhelia to open the scoring.
If that moment seemed to have sealed the tie, there was no doubt about it 14 minutes later when Bradley Barcola was left unmarked on the edge of the penalty area. He chipped the ball over the bar and volleyed it into the net with a sublime finish.
Substitute France Under-21 international Seyni Mayolo capped off a miserable week for Chelsea by scoring PSG’s third goal, a superb strike from the promising 19-year-old midfielder.
Chelsea fans hadn’t witnessed such a heavy defeat since their team’s 7-1 aggregate loss to Bayern Munich in 2020, and the stadium gradually emptied during the final 30 minutes.
Now, Paris Saint-Germain awaits the winner of the Liverpool vs. Galatasaray match to secure a quarter-final berth, with the Turkish club having won the first leg 1-0 in Turkey.
