PSG Takes a Step Towards CL Quarter-Finals After Crushing Chelsea

Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Chelsea 5-2 in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.

Bradley Barcola gave PSG an early lead in the 9th minute, but Enzo Fernandez equalized for Chelsea in the 28th minute.

Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele then put PSG ahead in the 40th minute, but Fernandez leveled the score again for the Blues 12 minutes into the second half.

The game turned completely when Khvica Kvaratskhelia replaced Désiré Doué in the 62nd minute. Kvaratskhelia set up Vitina for PSG’s third goal and then scored twice himself in the 86th and 94th minutes.

This result gives PSG some measure of revenge after Chelsea’s 4-0 thrashing of Luis Enrique’s side in the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup final in the USA last July.

Now the Blues must win by 4 goals at Stamford Bridge next Tuesday to advance, a very difficult task, and if Paris manages to maintain its advantage, it will wait for the winner of Liverpool and Galatasaray in the quarter-finals.
