A surprising name is close to taking over as Zamalek coach

Zamalek has begun its search for a new coach at a rapid pace to lead the White Knights in the Egyptian Super Cup. According to the Saudi newspaper Al-Mayadeen, the Egyptian club’s management has already found its man.

Zamalek had unanimously decided to dismiss Yannick Ferreira due to the team’s recent poor results and performances. Ahmed Abdel Raouf will temporarily lead the team in their match against Tala’ea El-Gaish on Sunday.

According to the latest report, Algerian coach Noureddine Benzekri is very close to taking over as Zamalek’s coach, succeeding Ferreira.

Benzekri will assume the role immediately and will lead Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup, which kicks off next Thursday with the White Knights facing Pyramids FC in the semi-finals.

Benzekri is considered one of the most prominent Arab coaches in recent years, thanks to his impressive experience in the Saudi League.

The 60-year-old successfully guided Al-Fayha, Damac, Al-Akhdoud, and Al-Kholoud to safety in the Saudi Professional League, and became famous for his “airplane” celebration.

Egyptian media outlets neither confirmed nor denied the news, only mentioning four foreign names: José Gomes, the current Al-Fateh coach; Rogério Micale, former coach of the Egyptian Olympic team; Nuno Almeida, former assistant to Jesualdo Ferreira; and Patrice Carteron, who coached Zamalek in two separate stints.
