Karim Benzema had the opportunity to secure three valuable points for his team, Al-Ittihad, against Al-Fayha, but the French star failed once again, missing a penalty kick after goalkeeper Mosquera successfully saved it.
A controversial penalty kick was awarded to Al-Ittihad in the 86th minute. Benzema stepped forward to take it, as usual, but he recklessly shot it to the left of goalkeeper Mosquera, who dived and successfully saved it.

This penalty is the continuation of a disastrous record for the French international with Al-Ittihad, as it is the sixth penalty missed by the 36-year-old since joining the Jeddah Tigers in the summer of 2023 from Real Madrid.
Benzema’s first penalty kick was missed against Al-Hilal in the King Salman Cup for Arab Clubs. He then missed another with Al-Ittihad against Al-Ahly in the Club World Cup.
It’s clear that Al-Fayhaa, in particular, is Benzema’s complex. This is his third penalty miss with Al-Ittihad, in addition to another against Al-Wahda in the Saudi Roshen League.
In total, the Real Madrid legend has missed 13 penalties in his career—three with the French national team, four with Real Madrid, and six with Al-Ittihad.
It’s worth noting that this was the first match for Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao in his new position as coach of Al-Ittihad, having taken over from the sacked French coach Laurent Blanc.
