Bayer Leverkusen’s management is considering sacking coach Erik Ten Hag after only three matches with the pharmaceutical company, due to poor results.
The Dutchman succeeded Xabi Alonso at the beginning of the summer and led Leverkusen to the DFB-Pokal Round of 64. They then suffered a defeat in the Bundesliga against Hoffenheim at the BayArena and a 3-3 draw with Werder Bremen in the second round.
According to Kicker, there are many criticisms of Ten Hag due to his handling of the players and his technical ideas, and the possibility of sacking him has become more likely than ever.
The Leverkusen management has not yet made a final decision on the matter, while the coach has clearly asked for more time and not to rush into dismissal, promising to turn things around after the international break.
Bayer Leverkusen has made numerous signings, spending over €150 million. However, the team’s performances since the friendly matches have been poor, and they are likely to lose their chances of competing in the Bundesliga this season.
Ten Hag’s career has taken a downward turn over the past two years, following two extremely poor seasons with Manchester United, which ultimately led to his dismissal midway through last season.
Ten Hag signed a contract with Leverkusen until the summer of 2027, and his departure now could mean he receives a very large financial compensation.
