The England captain claimed the award at the London Palladium, overcoming competition from some of the world’s biggest stars, including Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé, to take the crown held by Ousmane Dembélé last year.

Kane’s candidacy rested on an extraordinary scoring record: 73 goals and eight assists in 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and England during the assessment period, combining prolific finishing with consistency throughout the season.

At club level, the English striker scored 61 goals across all competitions for Bayern, helping the team win the Bundesliga, German Cup and German Super Cup, as well as reach the Champions League semi-finals.

His performances extended to international football, with England finishing third at the 2026 World Cup and Kane scoring six goals during the tournament. He also added the European Golden Shoe to his collection, securing individual honours alongside collective success.

With this triumph, Kane ended England’s 25-year wait for a Ballon d’Or winner, stretching back to Michael Owen in 2001. He became the fifth Englishman to receive the award, joining Stanley Matthews, Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Owen.

The historic significance also extended to Bayern Munich. The 33-year-old brought the award back to the club for the first time since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s victory in 1981, giving his exceptional season a golden conclusion.
