Sergio Rico and his family fell victim to an armed robbery inside their home near Seville, an incident currently being investigated by Spanish authorities after attackers stormed the property while the family was inside.
Spanish media reported that the former Paris Saint-Germain and Fulham goalkeeper was having dinner with his wife, Alba Silva, their two children, and his mother-in-law when the break-in occurred.
According to El Español, five masked individuals took part in the raid. Family members attempted to take shelter in one of the rooms before the intruders managed to reach them amid threats and intimidation.
Reports from the Mediaset network stated that the attackers tied Rico up, and one of them pointed a gun at Alba Silva’s mother’s head, while the others ransacked the house searching for valuables.
The attackers fled with stolen items including watches, jewelry, and other belongings, alongside reports of cash being stolen, though no final list or exact valuation of the stolen goods has been officially announced.
Conversely, Rico denied reports that he suffered severe beatings during the incident, according to Estadio Deportivo, providing an important clarification following the spread of conflicting accounts regarding the level of assault against him and his health status.
Alba Silva wrote following the incident: “I am still in shock from what happened, and I can’t find the words. But what truly matters is that our family, thank God, is safe,” as the Civil Guard continues its investigation to identify the perpetrators, with no arrests announced in the available reports.
The incident brings Rico back into a grim family ordeal following his survival of a severe accident in May 2023, which left him hospitalized for weeks before his discharge in August and his subsequent return to the pitch via Qatari side Al-Gharafa in 2024.
