Club president Ángel Torres confirmed ongoing negotiations with the English winger, explaining that contacts were revived following initial talks three or four months ago, though a deal has not yet been finalized.

Sancho possesses offers from clubs in the Middle East, while his wage demands and La Liga’s financial fair play regulations remain the two main obstacles for Getafe, who are searching for a formula that would allow them to register the player without exceeding their squad cost limit.

Bordalás wants a winger capable of dribbling and creating 1v1 numerical advantages, especially following Uche’s injury and the club’s inability to replace him, viewing Sancho as capable of filling the role previously played by Mason Greenwood.

Sancho began his senior career with Borussia Dortmund, where he established himself as one of Europe’s top talents, before Manchester United paid roughly €85 million to sign him in 2021. However, he struggled to find consistency at Old Trafford, managing just 12 goals and six assists in 83 appearances.

The player later returned to Dortmund on loan before undergoing spells with Chelsea and Aston Villa, the latter being his most recent stop prior to his United contract expiring last June. During those stints, he won the UEFA Conference League with Chelsea in 2025 and the UEFA Europa League with Aston Villa in 2026.

Getafe are relying on their prior experience with Greenwood, who rediscovered his match sharpness during the 2023–2024 season, scoring ten goals and providing six assists across 36 appearances before moving to Marseille. Consequently, the club hopes to replicate a similar low-cost, high-yield sporting model with Sancho.

These negotiations fit into a more ambitious strategy spearheaded by Torres, with Getafe having already signed Carvajal through June 2027 while holding talks with Dani Parejo and previously exploring the possibility of signing Sergio Ramos. The coming week will clarify whether the club can successfully add Sancho to its growing list of notable free-agent acquisitions.
