Zamalek files two complaints against Zizo… and Al Ahly responds

Tensions between Zamalek’s board and Ahmed Sayed Zizo are unlikely to subside in the coming period, after the Al Ahly player refused to shake hands with Vice President Hisham Nasr during the 2025 Egyptian Super Cup trophy presentation ceremony in the UAE.

Hisham Nasr went to the media expressing his disappointment, specifically with Al Ahly board member Khaled Mortagy, after Mortagy agreed with him that Zizo’s actions were wrong and then supported him on social media.

On Tuesday, Zamalek announced it had filed a complaint against Zizo with the Egyptian Football Association for failing to shake hands with Hisham Nasr, a violation of regulations.

Article 6/6 of the Disciplinary and Ethics Regulations issued by the Egyptian Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee stipulates penalties for anyone who insults the Federation, the Board, the Committee, the organizing body, officials, or any member of the football community.

On Wednesday, Zamalek filed another complaint with Hany Abo Rida, president of the Egyptian Football Association, against Zizo, accusing him of deliberately insulting the Zamalek club during the Super Cup final trophy presentation ceremony.

Al-Ahly did not remain silent in the face of Zamalek’s campaign against Zizo. They responded with an official complaint to the Football Association against Zamalek fans for their hostile chants directed at the player throughout the match.

Al-Ahly submitted 25 video clips to the Football Association documenting Zizo and his family being subjected to insults from Zamalek fans. In their complaint, they demanded that deterrent measures be taken against the fans, otherwise, Mahmoud El-Khatib’s administration would take further, more severe action.

Ultimately, the Egyptian Football Association issued a statement announcing all the penalties.

Zamalek was fined 100,000 Egyptian pounds for fan abuse, and Juan Bezerra was fined 50,000 Egyptian pounds for failing to greet the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports.

Al-Ahly was also fined 100,000 Egyptian pounds for fan abuse, and Ahmed Sayed Zizo was fined 50,000 Egyptian pounds for failing to greet Hisham Nasr.
