Saudi Arabia secured a hard-earned and precious point after playing out a thrilling 1-1 draw against Uruguay at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, USA.
The Green Falcons were clearly the better side in the first half, a dominance that materialized into a well-deserved lead when defender Abdulelah Al-Amri found the back of the net in the 40th minute.
However, the dynamics shifted in the second half. The Saudis dropped deep into a compact defensive block, relying solely on counter-attacks. Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay seized near-absolute possession, relentlessly pressing forward in search of an equalizer.
The South American giants finally broke through in the 80th minute when Maximiliano Araújo netted the equalizer for Uruguay. Despite a fierce late onslaught from La Celeste to snatch a winner, they were thwarted by a heroic Saudi defensive display and a stellar performance from goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais.
