England defender Tino Livramento has suffered a sudden injury that will rule him out of the 2026 World Cup.
According to an official statement from the Football Association (FA), Livramento sustained a hamstring injury requiring a lengthy recovery period before returning to action. Consequently, manager Thomas Tuchel has officially excluded him from the squad.
In response, the German tactician has called up Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah to replace the injured Livramento, just one day before the Three Lions kick off their World Cup campaign.
Tournament regulations allow participating teams to make late changes to their final 26-player squads up to 24 hours before their first group stage match, provided there is a serious medical justification.
The loss of the Newcastle United defender is undoubtedly a major blow for Tuchel, who has relied on him as a starter in all of England’s matches this year, with the sole exception of last week’s fixture against Costa Rica.
England will begin their World Cup journey in the USA, Canada, and Mexico against Croatia on Wednesday. They will then face a highly anticipated clash against Ghana next Tuesday, before wrapping up the group stage against Panama on Sunday, June 28.
