Will Florentino Pérez step down as president of Real Madrid?

Rumors have been circulating in recent hours about Florentino Pérez’s intention to step down as president of Real Madrid by 2026 at the latest, even though his term at the helm of the Royal Club still has two years remaining.

The report, which spread like wildfire, was based on Pérez’s desire for a smooth transition of power while he is still alive, and to ensure a well-organized administrative structure after his tenure ends, even if the general assembly overwhelmingly wants him to continue for as long as possible.

However, Cadena COPE radio has categorically denied these rumors, confirming through sources close to Pérez that they are completely unfounded.

The wealthy businessman has no intention of leaving Real Madrid before 2028 and will address all the speculation during his appearance at the Royal Club’s general assembly meeting, scheduled for November 23.

Journalist José Moreno said he contacted Pérez directly and asked him about the validity of his desire to resign, to which the Real Madrid president replied, “The thought of leaving next year hasn’t even crossed my mind.”

Florentino Pérez served as president of Real Madrid from July 17, 2000, to February 27, 2006, and again from June 1, 2009, to the present.

During his two terms, Real Madrid won seven Champions League titles and six La Liga titles, bringing the total number of trophies won by Los Blancos under his leadership to 38, more than any other president in the club’s history.
