Why has Zamalek been banned from registering new players again? And what is the fine?

FIFA has announced a three-transfer-window ban on Zamalek due to a new outstanding financial dispute.

FIFA did not specify the nature of the dispute on its website, raising many questions. Unlike previous cases, FIFA did not mention the possibility of lifting the transfer ban upon payment of the outstanding dues.

Sources within Zamalek told the media that the new ban stems from unpaid wages owed to former coach Christian Gross.

The Swiss coach took over Zamalek for a second stint that lasted no more than three months before being dismissed due to poor performance. Despite the club’s assurances that they were working to settle his dues, this has not yet materialized.

Zamalek currently owes only $140,000, not the previously reported $600,000.

Although FIFA’s announcement has caused concern for Zamalek, the club’s management maintains that registration will be reopened immediately upon payment of Gross’s outstanding dues.

What is the value of the fine? Thus, the total number of cases against Zamalek has reached five: four cases against José Gomes and his assistants, and one case against Gross, totaling $300,000.

Zamalek is seeking to secure the necessary funds to pay the fines in the hope of making signings during the winter transfer window and maintaining the team’s aspirations for domestic and continental titles.
