FIFA was forced to leave the original 2025 Club World Cup trophy at the White House at the request of US President Donald Trump and handed over a replica to the tournament’s champion, Chelsea.
According to Trump, during a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the latter presented him with the trophy. The US president asked, “When are you going to take this trophy?” The Swiss responded that it would remain in the White House forever and that they were working on making another one to present to the champion.
Trump continued, “They’ve already made a new replica, and the original trophy is now in the Oval Office and will remain there forever.”
Infantino has a close relationship with Trump, and FIFA hopes that will continue to be the case, especially since the United States, under Trump’s presidency, will host most of the 2026 World Cup matches.
Trump was the hero of a controversial moment in the final, when he insisted on remaining on the Chelsea podium as Reece James and the Blues lifted the trophy, a moment that stunned almost everyone.
It’s worth noting that Chelsea earned a substantial financial reward of more than €125 million for winning the World Cup, in addition to receiving the World Cup champions badge, which will remain on the London club’s shirt until the 2029 edition, which is expected to be held in Saudi Arabia.
