Omar Marmoush is close to ending his spell with Manchester City after the English club reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer of the Egyptian forward to the London side during the current summer transfer window.
The move comes following the “Egyptian Prince’s” diminishing role at the Etihad Stadium amid the presence of Erling Haaland, a abundance of attacking options, and the extensive changes being implemented by Enzo Maresca at the beginning of his City tenure.
Marmoush had given his approval to Tottenham’s project days ago, quickly clarifying his position and giving both clubs the green light to complete negotiations, particularly following a conversation with Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi.
The verbal agreement between the two clubs stipulates that the 27-year-old will initially join Tottenham on loan, featuring a purchase clause that becomes mandatory upon meeting specific conditions for a fee of £50 million.
Marmoush is scheduled to travel to London on Monday to undergo medical examinations prior to signing contracts and the official announcement of the transaction.
The Egyptian international joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt on January 23, 2025, for £59 million, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract running until June 30, 2029.
Marmoush made 61 appearances in a Manchester City shirt across all competitions, scoring 15 goals; he featured in 25 matches and scored 8 goals in his first season, followed by 7 goals in 36 matches during the 2025-2026 season. In the Premier League specifically, his tally reached 10 goals in 37 appearances.
Marmoush won the FA Cup and the League Cup with Manchester City during the 2025-2026 season, while his long-range strike against Bournemouth won the Premier League Goal of the Season award for 2024-2025, though he failed to secure a permanent spot in the starting lineup.
Tottenham continues its summer revolution after signing Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dúbravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali, having also reached an agreement to sign Savinho from Manchester City for £75 million plus £10 million in add-ons; making Marmoush the latest addition to De Zerbi’s project to restore the team to competitiveness.
