The AT&T Stadium in Dallas played host to one of the most exhilarating matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 so far, as the Netherlands and Japan battled out a dramatic 2-2 draw.
While the first half failed to live up to expectations with minimal chances from both sides, the game completely turned on its head after the interval, delivering a breathless second-half spectacle.
A Four-Goal Second-Half Thriller
Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, leaping highest to power a brilliant header off the inside of the right post past Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
However, Japan responded just eight minutes later. Keito Nakamura unleashed a fierce strike that deflected off Jan Paul van Hecke, wrong-footing the Dutch keeper to level the score.
The Netherlands quickly restored their lead in the 63rd minute when Crysencio Summerville cut in from the right flank and fired a thunderous shot into the back of Suzuki’s net.
Late Drama and Tunisian Action Ahead
Just as the Dutch seemed destined for three points, Japan found a dramatic equalizer in the 88th minute. Following a well-delivered corner, Koki Ogawa’s header deflected off Daichi Kamada and into the net, sealing a well-deserved point for the Samurai Blue.
The action in this thrilling group continues shortly; at 5:00 AM Mecca Time, Tunisia will face Sweden in the group’s other highly anticipated fixture.
